Fishing Holidays in the UK – Cottages and Lodges
I have recently been thinking about where to go on holiday this year. Not wanting to travel abroad, as I have traveled a few times on business lately, I focused on the UK. The problem as usual in the UK is the weather, so not much point in getting a hotel or B & B near a beach in case it rains all week or fortnight. Being a keen angler who does not care what the weather is like, I started to search online for fishing holidays in England.

History of Scotts Valley, California

The history of Scotts Valley, California is a lengthy tale. It is positioned at the bottom of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Archaeological digs have unearthed remnants of the Paleo Indian culture dating back as far as eight to twelve thousand years. Settlements of the Ohlone tribes are thought to date back as far as 2,000 B.C. It was also home to the Shasta tribe and many beaver. Wild produce such as acorns, berries, cherries, and plums made the area attractive to indigenous people. Steelhead fish and salmon supplied many meals for people of the region.
The region was formerly called Rancho San Agustin during the time of the Spanish-Mexican inhabitants. The area extends for over 4,400 acres. It was given to Jose Antonio Bolcoff who was recorded to be residing with his wife there in 1836. Bolcoff was a native of Russia but later became a Mexican citizen. He spent a period of time as a traveling interpreter for Alta, California’s governor, Pablo Vicente de Sol .Bolcoff abandoned his “rancho” and it was then given over to his brother in law Joseph Ladd Majors.
Majors was an American citizen from Tennessee. He had previously earned a living as a trapper. When he came to the area he assisted in the operation of a distillery with Job Dye. He constructed a grist mill where area residents were able to get much need ground wheat. He used the “rancho” to assist in stowing away British and American citizens. They were being threatened by the Mexican government who wanted to banish all of the “foreigners” in the area. Meanwhile, Paul Sweet helped to develop the tanning industry in the region. There was a large presence of tanbark oaks within the Santa Cruz Mountains. He was a native of the state of Rhode Island.
Mayor Joseph Ladd Majors was elected into office, and in later years served as treasurer to the city. He decided to sell his property in 1850. A native of Maine, Hiram Scott, purchased Major’s property. Scott had worked as a seaman but became a gold prospector in the area. His family was the only residents in the area for a long period of time. The city was named in his honor. Quail, deer, coyotes, wolves, mink, and grizzly bears were plentiful and indigenous to the region during that time period. He eventually sold off his land to a few different families as they came into the area.
Locke’s Springvale Dairy was an attraction in the area. The dairy donated some land to the school district. Social activities largely took place within the school which became the social hub. Apples, butter, cheese, grapes, poultry and milk became staples of the areas produce. The beautiful landscape of the region called to tourists from many places, especially after The Great Depression. History of Scotts Valley, California shows that the area did not become incorporated until 1964 and wasn’t truly a city until 1966. The city is now home to many high tech firms.

The problems with U.S. Textbooks in their religious instruction, report on a study by Peter Menkin
In a reliable and even remarkable study, The Institute for Jewish & Community Research, located in San Francisco, published a work on religion in American textbooks. These textbooks, used in the United States’ schools, make many errors of religious fact—surprising and even egregious errors.
The effort of five years by the late researcher Gary Tobin, PhD (former President of the Institute), and Dennis Ybarra, MBA, was discussed both by email and webcam.

Bass Fishing: Picking The Best Lure For Your Location

]]>
Fishing for Bass is probably the most popular fishing sport in the United States. Across the US, the most popular Bass fishing events usually happen in the summer months.
Pros and amateurs alike will flock to tournaments stretching from Rhode Island all the way to Texas. It’s very important that these anglers know how the Bass will behave, and what kinds of lures will work best to catch them.
Seasoned anglers usually have a pretty good idea of where the big Bass are just by testing the water temperature and analyzing the surrounding environment.
The angler will then determine what kind of food is available in the water, and make their selection of lure based on these factors. A most effective technique is to pick a lure that mimics food that is not available at that location. This often peaks the curiosity of the Bass, and “lures” them to snatch up your bait!
There are 3 popular lure types that are generally chosen by anglers in these conditions. They are:
1. Crank Baits
Crank baits are good lures to use when Bass are feeding in the mid to surface level. These baits are usually shaped like minnows, and all have a plastic lip that varies in size. This lip determines how deep or shallow the lure will run depending on the speed of retrieval. They are usually bright colored with spotted or striped designs.
2. Swim Baits
These baits resemble the swimming action of a minnow. They have streamlined designs and are shaped like smaller baitfish. The shape of these baits allows for exact imitation of the movement of a live minnow. They are usually equipped with a series of treble hooks suspended from the underbelly of the lure.
3. Jerk Baits
Jerk baits also shaped like minnows but usually weigh more than swim baits. The design of the jerk bait causes it to dive down and then quickly return to the surface using very irregular movemements. This tricks the Bass into thinking that the bait is a distressed minnow, the natural prey of Bass. There’s nothing more attractive to a hungry Largemouth than an injured minnow.
Although there are many different types of artifial lures, some anglers still prefer the use of live baits such as grubs and nightcrawlers. As you hone your Bass fishing techniques you may even learn to make your own lures and you’ll know which lure is best for the type of bass you are trying to catch and it’s surrounding habitat.
