The bluegill is a round but flat fish. They have a small dark spot located at the base of the dorsal fin and the upper sides and back of this species is a dark olive-green color. The ear flat is solid black and its belly is a reddish yellow color. They also have vertical bars running up and down their sides.

The bluegill is part of the sunfish family and they can be found all over the United States and in the northern part of Mexico. They are the most plentiful in the state of North Carolina where you can find them in almost every body of water. Knowing what the bluefish feeds on naturally and where they can be found is the first step to successfully fishing for this species.

Habitat and Diet of the Bluefish

This exciting species can be found in just about all types of water with the exception of “high-gradient trout streams”. They can thrive in either clear or muddy waters with no problem at all. They can survive in water that is slightly saline or acidic but it is not their preference. When searching for the bluegill you will find them in creeks, rivers, swamps and backwaters. However, they are usually the most abundant in reservoirs and ponds.

The bluegill is not very picky about what they eat. In fact, they will eat almost anything that is small enough to fit into their mouths. This gives the angler an advantage because most any type of bait will work just fine, provided it is the appropriate size. They feed naturally off of flying insects that hit the water and aquatic insects.

Nightfishing Tips

Unlike many other species the bluegill feeds mostly during the day. This is because they use their sight to locate the food. What this means for the angler is that nightfishing can be more difficult but with the right tactics, you can haul them in hand over fist. It just takes a little ingenuity. The very best time to go bluegill fishing is right at dusk or dawn but if you go during the night hours the following tips can help. Start by using the same methods you would for fishing during the day.

When it comes to bait, the plain ordinary garden worm or crickets are the best that you can use. You only need enough bait to cover the hook so many anglers will use part of the worm instead of the whole thing. Stock up on these before you head out and you should have a good night on the water. If you prefer to use artificial baits you can still reel in a good catch as long as you keep a few simple rules in mind.

Bluegill are not very large therefore, you need to use equipment that is suited for a small species of fish. It is recommended that you use an ultra-light rod and reel set combined with small number 10 hooks. The wire hooks with a long shank is best because they are easier to get out of the bluegills very small mouth and for securely holding small lures and bait. Using test line weighing between 2 to 6 pounds will work the best and it will help you to feel the bluegill when they strike your line.

rainbow trout has originally in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the U.S. But they were exposed to the North Carolina In the 1880′s and since then stored in rivers and streams across the eastern U.S. They get their name because of a pienkerige tape over the length of both sides of the fish, surrounded by swart alpha patches. They can also a pink or red gill cover. Typical rainbow trout is about 10 inches long, but sometimes larger fish is found. Hulle do best in clean, cool water with a bit of current.

An interesting fact about rainbow trout is that there are two forms which sometimes share the same habitat. She is kind, but the “Steelhead” trout migrate to the ocean to mating season and they lose the red band on their sides. Also they are more silwerig as rainbow trout and a little bigger. Due to their superior size, when they do return to the rivers, they dominate the area.

A general fault of the rainbow trout is that ‘Redband’ is the same as rainbow trout. While they do not appear very similar in appearance, Redband trout is actually a subspecies of reënboë with larger spots and darker colors.

Rainbow trout can be found in almost all the United States leads all the way from the Pacific coast into Mexico, as in the northeast. Overall, there are six main subspecies of rainbow trout in the western United States alone. It is the Columbia River red band trout, the California golden trout, the Little Kern & Key golden trout, the Sacramento red band trout, the Coastal rainbow trout, rainbow trout and the Kamchatka

Golden rainbow trout (not to be confused with the naturally occurring ‘golden trout) and Palomino trout bred deliberately to cause color variations. They are mostly yellow, without the typical green field and black dots, but she still has the red stripe down the side. Palamino Trout is a cross between golden reënboë and Redband, they mixed their colors.

In contrast to similar species, rainbow trout do not die after spawning. Besides, it can sometimes spawn four times in their lives. But all subspecies of rainbow trout goes through changes during or in preparation to spawn. They change color and shape of their head and mouth changes as well.

On the whole, is rainbow trout considered the backbone of American fisheries. Both reënboë heads and the stem is very gesog with anglers, both as a source of food and the intense struggle with it once caught on a line. They are so aggressive that they often jump out of the water when hooked.

All of the fishermen, especially those who live in North Carolina love to compare the lakes in their place and also how they make fishing a great hobby.

When you start to pile things up, it becomes noticeable right away that there are some “kissing cousins” among bass lakes in the Tar Heel State of North Carolina: reservoirs that look like each other closely are enough that they are said to “fish alike.” And that no two reservoirs are more strongly related, it can be argued, than High Rock Lake and Buggs Island Lake.

Heres a tip for you crank bait fishermen: If you use the clip locks, use the Norman Speedclips, taking the factory split ring off so the clip goes directly to the bait keeps the action of the bait true and you have a lot less trouble with the line fouling. That is best to use in North Carolina Bass Fishing.

For bass pro and Buggs Island guide Joel Richardson, summer bass success means hitting main-lake structure in 12 to 20 feet of water. are relatively shallow, as Piedmont lakes go; they are fed heavily by tributary creeks but affected more by river current, and no one will ever confuse them with clear lakes. They’re also shallow enough upstream that navigation into the upper areas can be touchy.

And for some glorious reason, all of those features cause or allow bass to bite on those three reservoirs when the weather is pushing 90 degrees and more pages on the calendar have been throw away than are remaining.

They are the kingpins of their respective river systems – High Rock on the Yadkin and Buggs Island on the Roanoke. They are both relatively fertile, growing good populations of bass, stripers, crappie and catfish of various shapes and sizes.

This will melt the plastic back together. Obviously you don’t want to use this trick over buying new baits, but if you’re stuck on the water with no spare baits, this will get you through the day.
All of them are fed by a lot of very nice, large creeks. None of them would ever be considered “clear” by any stretch of the imagination. All of them have a very strong rung at the bottom of the food-chain ladder: great populations of baitfish.

Now take this as an example, the three wonderful reservoirs in the Piedmont region of North Carolina: Buggs Island Lake, Jordan Lake and High Rock Lake. None of them are tremendously deep reservoirs. At least three fishermen in North Carolina appreciate this phenomenon.

After a heavy down pour fish anywhere you can find water running into the lake this water will be full of nutrients starting a vibrant food chain and bass will be all over it.

South Carolina Crappie Fishing – Where to Go and How to Catch Crappie

The good news is, if you want to go crappie fishing in Sorth Carolina, you have an abundance of Lakes from which to choose. Crappie are very plentiful in North Carolina, and with a little know how and common sense, if you know where to look, you can fish for crappie all year long! Some of the great South Carolina crappie fishing lakes are:

Watertree Lake

Hartwell Lake

Lake J. Strom Thurmond

Lake Keowee

Lake Jocassee

Lake Marion

Lake Murray

Lake Moultrie

Lake Wylie

Richard B Russell Lake

Monticello Reservoir

Lake Greenwood

Lake Moultrie boasts the black crappie state record, and Lake Murray waters produced the state record white crappie, but in addition to these lakes, any stream, creek, river, or pond in South Carolina is also apt to have plenty of crappie as well. If you are looking for strictly black or white crappie, your target locations might vary slightly. Just remember that black crappie like to live in larger, deeper waters, while white prefer backwater areas that don’t see as much action, and tend to be quiet.

You can catch crappie from the bank or a boat while still fishing, drifting, casting or trolling. It is generally agreed that the best time to catch crappie is during the spring spawn, and crappie tend to congregate in schools with cover nearby. Live bait seems to normally work best when fishing for crappie. Choose bait that looks like worms, minnows, insects, etc., and the crappie will tend to find you if you are anywhere near their normal habitat. Early dawn fishermen can usually find crappie close to the surface of the water, but as the sun begins to beam down on the water, the crappie will drop down to about ten feet deep. As the day progresses, and the sun gets higher, they will move even deeper, often twenty-five feet or even more. At sunset, they will again move to more shallow depths, and end the day on the surface. They do tend to return to the deeper water at night, and they sometimes feed during the night as well.

During the spring months, crappie are inhabiting the shallow waters that are suitable for their spawning, their primary food will be small crayfish and minnows, so if you fish the shallows using this type of bait, once you locate their schools, your catch should be plentiful. Remember, crappie move in schools, so if you catch one, there will be others nearby. Consider just drifting along in likely areas with a slow bait until you catch one crappie, marking the spot, and settling in for a productive day catching crappie.

During the summer months, crappie really respond to the heat, so fish start the day fishing shallow in the morning and evening hours, and move into the deeps during the heat of the day. The best baits during the summer months are crappie spoons and jigs and the live bait you find naturally in their waters.

In the fall, use live bait or crappie jigs and spoons, and dish in the more shallow areas, but as the crappie move as the day progresses, just fish a little deeper using spoons and jigs, and seek out structure.

Lake Lure to Host Inaugural Fly-Fishing Masters Tournament

The Olympiad Fly-Fishing Masters tournament comes to Lake Lure, NC, one of National Geographic’s ten most beautiful man-made lakes. Competitors and family and friends are encouraged to come to this one-of-a-kind tournament.

“I’ve competed in several tournaments and they are always in very remote locations,” said host sponsor and tournament founder Michael Yelton. “While that’s the true nature of fly-fishing, family and friends seldom attend because there’s little to do and see. Lake Lure is a win-win on fishing, spectatorship and things to do for everyone.” Yelton, owner and operator of The Granddaddy Fly-Fishing Experience, is a member of the North Carolina Fly-Fishing Team.

Competition:

Day one, anglers in adult and youth divisions will be judged on distance and accuracy casting. Day two, the top ten adult division finishers will be judged on the combined length of three fish caught within a specific time.

Cash prizes and Olympiad medals will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. Consolation prizes go to the fourth and fifth place winners. Olympiad medals will be awarded to winners in the youth division after day one.
