Careful Observation

Most people recognize fly fishing by the casting style, but a lot of the action is on the surface of the water. Which is very hard to observe because of how subtle the motions are at this step.

Casting the Lure

Here is a shot of what most people will recognize as fly fishing. Kind of wish I knew how to fish properly, as I seem to either get lucky, or the fish were raised in captivity.

How to Enjoy Yourself at Georgia Mountain Cabins

When you’re planning a vacation or a simple weekend getaway to Georgia mountain cabins, there are a number of different activities in the immediate area just waiting for you to undertake. This could include horseback riding, shopping, wine tasting or any number of other activities. For your convenience, here’s a list of nine activities you can engage in. Whether you’re going alone, with your significant other, or with the entire family—there’s something here for everyone.

1. Places to eat. One of the activities people like to do when traveling is taste the cuisine in a given area. For those staying at Georgia mountain cabins, just some of the many eating establishments you can check out include the Iron Horse Grill, Colonel Poole’s Bar-B-Q, Sue’s Log Cabin, the Cohutta Lodge and restaurant and the Cantaberry restaurant. For an extra special experience, contact the Gourmet Station to have a dinner prepared for you and delivered right to where you’re staying.

2. Shopping/stores. Care to free yourself of some disposable income? Places you can shop in this area include Cabin Critters Art, the Antique Hound, Trevor’s Antiques and General Store and Out of the Blue gift shop and other fine shops in the Ellijay general vicinity.

]]>

3. Outdoor activities. To entertain the kids, there are parks, caverns and waterfalls to explore. These include the Waterfalls of Georgia, Ruby Falls, Rock City, Amicalola Falls, the famous Appalachian Trail, the Benton MacKay Hiking Train, various Georgia state parks and the Raccoon Mountain Caverns.

4. Bicycling. If you want to do some pedaling near your Blue Ridge cabin rental, you can hike on down to the Cartecay Bike Shop in Ellijay. Here you can rent bikes for your leisure. You can also contact the Ellijay Mountain Bike Association for a list of trail you can traverse in the vicinity.

5. Fishing. Try your luck near Geaorgia mountain cabins with a rod at the Fightingtown Creek, Clear Creek, Mountain Creek and the Ellijay River. There’s plenty of fish for everyone.

6. Equine adventures. Is horseback riding in your itinerary? If so, you can satisfy your urge at Adventure Trail Rides, Blanche Manor or the stables at Fort Mountain.

7. Golfing. If putting or driving is to your liking, two different courses are available. These are the Butternut Creek Golf Course and the Chesatee Golf Course. They offer ample challenges on the green for any golfer.

8. Wineries. If tasting the grapes is your preference, you can savor the moment at Three Sisters Vineyard, Frogtown Cellars or the Habersham Winery. Just make sure you make driving arrangements!

9. Water fun. Interested in canoeing, tubing, and the like? Places of interest for these venues include Wildwood Outfitters, Ocoee Adventure Center, the Rolling Thunder River Company and Cartecay River Experience Kayaking and Tubing Fun.

All the activities mentioned above plus the Swan Drive-In, the Blue Ridge Community Theater, pet sitting and walking, the Kangaroo Conservation Center and even the Easton Fly Fishing Club are all easily within range of your Georgia mountain cabin or Blue Ridge cabin rental. It’s also a good idea to ask the proprietor when you’re residing at Georgia mountain cabins for some of the activities, sights or places of interest. As you can imagine, the locals have their hand on the pulse of what’s going on in their home communities. Regardless, one thing is for sure. There’s plenty to keep you busy when you rent a Georgia mountain cabin.

Georgia Mountain Cabin Rentals – The Ideal Vacation Destination

When it’s vacation time, you might have trouble deciding on a destination. With so many available options, you’re likely to become stressed and overwhelmed. Save yourself the trouble and look into Georgia Mountain cabin rentals.

What Georgia Mountain Cabin Rentals Have to Offer

• Lots to do- When you stay in Georgia Mountain cabin rentals you can be sure of one thing- you’ll never get bored. Whether you’re a home body or a thrill seeker, the North Georgia Mountains have plenty of activities to keep you occupied. Venture into the water on your own kayak or hit the trails on your mountain bike. Whatever you choose, the options are endless.

• Privacy- Georgia Mountain cabin rentals differ from other places you might stay in that they offer extreme privacy. Don’t want to see another human being for an entire weekend? You don’t have to! The cabins are secluded and quiet, allowing you to retreat and recharge your overworked batteries. Don’t settle for a hotel in the city, escape to the Georgia Mountains.

• Wildlife- Not only do North Georgia vacation rentals allow you to escape the stresses of the city, but they immerse you in wildlife. Animals flourish so much in the mountains that you’re bound to see wild turkeys, chipmunks, deer- pretty much any animals you can think of. And if you’re a bird watcher, well you’ll stay busy for weeks. The mountain area is also home to the Kangaroo Conservation Center. The center houses the world’s largest population of kangaroos outside of Australia.

• Mountain scenery- You’d be hard pressed to find a vacation spot that offers scenery as stunning as the North Georgia Mountains. Imagine walking onto your patio and watching the sun climb past the mountains early in the morning. The birds are chirping and the river rushes at your feet. The clean mountain air rejuvenates your lungs with its near-mystical properties. Georgia Mountain cabin rentals offer you this scene every single morning.

• Affordable- Unlike some destinations, North Georgia vacation rentals won’t force you to spend your life savings to have a good time. If you’re strapped for cash, you’ll find plenty of cabin rentals in your price range. And when you’re in the mountains, you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars a day for entertainment. Nature provides you with plenty of entertainment at no extra cost. Finding Georgia Mountain cabin rentals will prove affordable for any budget.

• Trout fishing- The North Georgia Mountains is the ultimate destination for anyone who enjoys fishing. With rivers stocked full of trout by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Mountain cabin rentals offer the perfect location for a vacationer looking to fly fish. And with multiple riverfront cabins available, you could literally walk out your back door and begin an entire day of fishing.

• Travel Insurance- Often vacations can be marred by unplanned and unpleasant events. Some cabin rental companies offer vacation rental insurance to help mitigate the risks of bad weather, illness, and even identity theft. Their emergency services can come in handy and shouldn’t be passed up.

The reasons are pretty much endless. For your next vacation, consider Georgia Mountain cabin rentals.

Everyone’s talking about the new light emitting Esca Lures.

Buy these exciting new Esca Lures online at – www.escalure.co.uk

1. What would you say is a must “how-to seminar” to take in during this year’s boat show?

We revamped our Angler’s Alley speaker lineup last year to include the most top pros, tournament winners, and experts that were available and visitors responded so well that we had to add extra rows of chairs after the first day.

At the 2011 show, we are going to hold four Angler’s Alley “colleges” on the four weekend days; one each covering walleye, bass, fishing electronics, and steelhead. Mike Knippenberg and Ryan Buddie, this year’s Masters Walleye Circuit team of the year, will speak at the show on Jan. 15 and 19 and 2010 MWC World Walleye Champion Jonnie Candle will be there on Jan. 21, 22, and 23. All-in-all, there will be multiple speakers each day at the show.

2. What has always been or will be the “most popular exhibit”?

People have always come and will always come for the great selection of boats; they are truly the stars of the show.

The diversity of watercraft at our show cannot be matched and I think visitors really benefit from having a one-stop shop for everything from large cruisers and fishing boats to sport boats, sailboats, pontoons, and personal watercraft.

3. In your opinion what’s the “number 1 attraction” of this year’s show”?

We were fortunate to snag the offshore race boat – Time Bandit Super V Lite boat for the second half of the show, Jan. 20-23. Visitors will be able to see the 90-mph craft up close and meet owner/driver Bob Mazikowski. Bob is no stranger to boat racing winning championships at National and World competitions in his 11 year career. Also be sure to see Travis Lofland who competes as a throttleman on the Wizard fishing boat.

People coming in the days prior to its arrival – you will want to check out the timeless wood boats that will be displayed by the North Coast Antique Boat Society, Lyman Boat Owners Association, and Cleveland Amateur Boatbuilding and Boating Society.

4. What would be your most “frequently asked questions” about this year’s show?

People always ask about discount tickets and we will be offering plenty this year. -off tickets are on sale at all Cleveland-area Marc’s stores right now and Tuesday, Jan. 18 we will hold a canned food drive. A visitor to the show who brings 4 canned foods to help fill a small boat will be rewarded with free admission to the show.

Put-in-Bay Days on Wednesday, Jan. 19, and Thursday, Jan. 20, will be celebrated with after 5 promotions.

At 5 p.m. each night, the show’s admission price will be reduced to . Thursday night’s entertainment will be provided by South Bass Island Regulars.

5. What is “new” at this year’s show?

A new “Cruising Lifestyle Stage” will be set up to host demonstrations on diesel mechanics, sail boat rigging, how to cook using a small galley, along with a display on regional destinations.

The popular Pre-owned Pavilion, which debuted at the 2010 show with quality used boats from multiple exhibitors, will be back, along with the regionally-themed Put-in-Bay Pavilion, Destination Vermilion, and Destination Sandusky displays.

Sounds like another great show this year Mike, thanks for sharing some time with us.

The Mid-America Boat & Fishing Show will be open Jan. 14-23 at the I-X Center in Cleveland. For more information, please check out our boating resource box below….

Atlanta Boat Show – Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions at This Year’s Boat Show

Hello everyone, Rick Ostler here from North American Waterway. Do you have any idea what does the month of January mean to the boating industry? January is the start of the Boat Show season across North America.

To start off the boat show season, the 2011 Atlanta Boat Show, happening January 13 – 16. The 49th annual show is located at the Georgia World Congress Center, 285 Andrew Young International Blvd, NW Atlanta, GA.

I recently caught up with Boat Show Representative Sarah Ryser, and I had an opportunity to ask her a few questions about this years show;

1. What would you say is a must “how-to seminar” to take in during this year’s boat show?

We have a wide variety of free daily seminars and interactive courses for new and experienced boaters. The ‘Basics of Sonar’ by Ken Sturdivant is definitely a must. Many attendees have commented on how much they have learned from that seminar year after year.

In addition, the new sailing seminars by the Windsong Sailing Academy are expected to be a hit with sailing enthusiasts, which have been missing in recent years from the seminar lineup.

2. What has always been or will be the “most popular exhibit”?

It’s hard to qualify the most popular exhibit at Atlanta Boat Show; the majority of local boat dealers have done an exceptional job decorating their booths to enhance the shopping experience for the attendee.

However, in recent years, one of the show features, the Affordability Pavilion, has been a big hit with visitors, as it showcases boats from dealers throughout the show floor that can be financed for 0/month or less – a great stop for entry-level buyers.

The Let’s Go Fishing Center is also a popular destination at the show. You can check out What’s new in fishing with daily seminars that are no cost and the live demonstrations are great way to update and improve your fishing skills.

Features of the exhibit include:

Daily fishing seminars – Take in local professional fishing experts demonstrate how to cast along with current fishing techniques. The training will be for saltwater and freshwater fishing. Check out how you can obtain a free Berkley fishing gift, and be sure to enter the Berkley Fishing Dream Tackle Box and gear contest, valued at 0.

The 5,000 Gallon Bass Tub – This is really cool, a rare opportunity to view the reaction how fish strike using a variety of lures. The aquarium will be stocked all during the show with native fish.

Trout Fishing for Kids – kids under 12 years of age get to enjoy the catch-and-release trout fishing pond. This goes on every day at the boat show.

3. In your opinion what’s the “number 1 attraction” of this year’s show”?

A big attraction for the 2011 show is Distortion Wake Boarding Extreme Rail Jam – A high energy wake-boarding demonstration inside the convention center. The top rider’s right across the United States will perform radical wake boarding stunts and tricks using a state-of-the-art portable towing device. The demonstration will be done in an amazing landing pool filled with 30,000 gallons of water. The professional boarders are from Malibu, Ski Nautique, Mastercraft and Distortion Boarding.

4. What would be your most “frequently asked questions” about this year’s show?

The questions we usually get the most are: Where can we get tickets? Tickets can be purchased online at the boat shows website and of course onsite during the show.

Another questions we often get is: Is it really possible to buy boats for 0.00 a month range or less right at the show? Yes absolutely!

5. What is “new” at this year’s show?

What’s ‘new’ at the show? Hundreds 2011 boat models and new marine accessories, gear & technology will be for sale this year.

Boat Accessories Make Your Trip Perfect

Nothing helps keep your boat afloat better and you happy with it than the perfect boat accessories. Having the right objects around and in your boat can ensure that you have the best time possible and never have to stress about not having the right item. Comfortable seats, a sturdy cooler, and a flawless navigation system are just a few accessories that will make any boating trip a complete enjoyable success.

Having the right seating in your boat is a critical part of your trip. When on a long fishing trip where you will be sitting down for extended amounts of time, you want to make certain you have a chair that will provide you with ease and support. Chairs that do not sustain you properly can lead is discomfort and aches and pains. Softer and bucket like seats will supply you with comfort and contentment so you can fish for hours upon hours without needing to get up and stretch or getting uncomfortable.

Another vital necessity for your fishing expedition is a strong and reliable cooler. You will need one sizeable enough to hold your beverages but you might even need another one to hold your fish, shrimp, or other marine life as well. An ideal aspect to look for when purchasing the best cooler for you is making sure that you find one that can float. Every fisherman, or woman, knows that when the cooler falls overboard it is hopeless unless you have one that will not sink straight to the bottom. You also want to find one that if it falls out of the boat when pulling the boat onto the ramp and hits the rocks, that it will not just break and fall apart. You need a cooler than is as strong as you and will float because accidents do happen on fishing excursions.

A navigation system is another important item to have on your adventure on the water. You want to make sure that you never get lost or so far out that you will run out of gas. Having a guide to help you make it around the open water will help your trip be less stressful and help you accomplish your goal. A system of navigation will help you ensure you never get lost and waste time on your fishing trip.

The right boat accessories will lead the way to the absolute best journey you will ever have. It gives you exactly what you need to have a great time. They prepare you and keep you comfortable for the entirety of your trip.

Top Tips For Buying a Boat

How can I make sure I choose the right boat?

Think about what you need, don’t need and what you would like. Narrow down your choices to short lists of categories, makes, features etc. Ask yourself, what will I be using my boat for? spending time with family & friends, socialising, entertaining, racing, cruising, fishing (saltwater or freshwater?) sailing, holidays (sleeping), watersports etc, do your research on this, a lot of people don’t think this far ahead! speak to people who are involved in boating, involve yourself in the community! more often than not they will go out of their way to help.

Visit boat shows and boat dealers

Now you have a narrowed down idea of what your require, visit boat shows and boat dealers (google search either) get on board the boats, get a feel for them and don’t be afraid to ask questions (no matter how silly or obvious) if you are new to boating, tell the dealer that! chances are they will be extra friendly and helpful.

Do I buy new or used?

This really depends on the person buying the boat, if you have the money and intend on keeping the boat forever (or at least a long time) then buy it new! however if you feel you are on a budget and new to boating then purchase a second hand craft, a boat will probably lose half it’s value in two years without many effects on the appearance or condition. Just because a boat is pre owned it does not mean it is “used”, generally speaking boats spend 90% of their life out of use, sitting in the water or garage. Statistically speaking, most new boat owners upgrade within three years anyway.

Rule of thumb! unless money is no object, or you have a desire to own everything from new, go for a second hand boat! it makes sense.

Test drive time!

Did you know you can test drive a boat? see the way it handles and feels on the water! bring the family with you, get a feel for the environment you will be using it in! take it out to sea. Ask questions, get the family to ask questions, find out as much as possible.

Time to buy!

Discuss the options with your dealer, should you pay cash or finance? what are the added benefits of finance? a good dealer will go out of their way to help you find the best package available. This is also the time to be sure you understand the additional costs of boating, it’s not just the fibreglass!

Accessories, water toys & safety gear

Operating costs (petrol)

Maintenance and upkeep

Storage (if a trailer in your garage or backyard is not an option)

Insurance

All of these are common sense but not a everyone thinks about these additional expenses when purchasing boats, all of the above apply to almost anything you buy. One thing for sure, the cost of owning a boat is nothing compared to the benefits derived from owning and using one!

Fishing Holidays in the UK – Cottages and Lodges

I have recently been thinking about where to go on holiday this year. Not wanting to travel abroad, as I have traveled a few times on business lately, I focused on the UK. The problem as usual in the UK is the weather, so not much point in getting a hotel or B & B near a beach in case it rains all week or fortnight. Being a keen angler who does not care what the weather is like, I started to search online for fishing holidays in England.

Question by sweetwaterfish: Any Knowledge with Carp Fishing/Pay Lake Tournaments?
Hello! I own a catfish farm in South Georgia. I was wondering if anyone had experience with a carp fishing lake, or carp fishing tourney, with a “tagged fish” bonus prize?
I’ve heard rumors about other farms doing a weekly tournament for carp and would like to learn more about it!

Please help!

Yes what do you wanna know ? its fun and competitive I have won several hundred dollars fishing in North Carolina carp tournaments

here is a good bait

But it takes a few ingredients. Get some ground troutchow . A box of sugar pops (cereal) and they make a strawberry flavoring , mello fruit, butternut are also my favorites . Get the troutchow wet it with water and some flavoring . get it wet enough just to make a loose doughball. Put a sugar pop on your hook. Form a large doughball around your hook , Over the sugar pop with the troutchow. Cast out and let sit. The troutchow will dissolve in the water putting off scent and exposing the sugar pop . the carp cannot resist that and will suck up the sugar pop and run with it.

If you cannot find the strawberry flavoring it will work with out it. And catfish chow will take the place of trout chow also

Also you can use millet and Karo syurp and flavoring to make a dough ball

And cooked rice and flavoring also makes a good bait but be sure to make a tight enough ball around the sugar pop to cast it but loose enough to crumble away on the bottom exposing the sugar pop

here is a rough drawing( in the link below )of the rig I use for carp as well keep the leaders short off the 3 way only make them 4 or 5 inches

Use 2 rods heavy action rods and with good baitcasting reels and 20 pound line . And get good rod holders . The tagged fish tourneys are always fun and give you a chance at winning more money

EDIT: Ok I see now you need details about running one , Why not have Catfish tournaments? but anyway..

You need to have insurance and cover the legalities,

Next you will need some large carp of course ,

And you will need to have rules posted such as # of rods # of hooks etc . Also you will need to watch for people using brake fluid and wd 40 to try and win the tournament.

Usually you set up a fee to enter and have hourly prizes given away for the biggest fish on the hour , Then you have big fish of the night , even a small fish of the night , sometimes a dead even poundage fish get a bonus as well . And a special pot set up for the tagged fish that pot will grow until someone catches it. Say its 5 extra dollars to enter the tagged fish prize, that money is put in a pot day after day until its caught. ( the larger that pot grows the more people will come)

usually 80 percent of the money taken in is given back out in prize rewards . So you need to do the math on numbers of prizes given out etc. The more people come the more money you will make and they will win.

There was another question from a guy in Georgia a week or so ago he fishes in the Georgia tournaments you might go to this link and try getting a e mail to him asking him specifics about your area here is the link http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070418212430AA0EejL

Good Luck , If you have big Catfish they can make you some good money as well
