Walleye Fishing Tips – How to Use Walleye Lures – Bottom Bouncers

Bottom bouncing has become one of the most useful techniques in walleye fishing, yet for many walleye anglers it remains somewhat of a mystery. A bottom bouncer might look like a bit much-a clunky piece of lead wrapped around a piece of stiff wiring, but this simple fishing tool has proven again and again that it is a fishing lure that delivers big walleye.

Bouncers can be used with various types of walleye lures from crankbaits to floating jigs, but their most common application is with a spinner, usually tipped with either live bait or a plastic substitute. Spinners use rotating blades that cut through the water, sending out a strong vibration that can be felt by the “lateral line” which walleye use to sense their prey. They also flash as they spin, making for a visually attractive fishing lure setup.

There are few different types of blades as well. A good choice for most situations is a Colorado blade, which is flashy and has a strong vibration that works well at slow speeds. Others like Indiana and Willowleaf work best a little faster, which can reduce your chances if the walleye aren’t particularly aggressive. An optimal trolling speed in most cases is somewhere between 1 and 1.5 mph.

There are two major shapes of bottom bouncers: straight or bent in an “L” or “r” shape. Both are designed for the same purpose, but the bent bouncers seem to work a little better when fishing in areas with a lot of obstructions like logs. When it comes in contact with the obstruction, it will cause your fishing lure to dart forward and can trigger the walleyes’ strike instinct. This is also a good way to avoid snags. You can feel it out with your bouncer and know to lift your spinner or other walleye lure up and over.

This setup is a good choice especially when the walleye are either hanging out in the weeds or logs or they are more spread out and you’re trying to cover a lot of water. If the latter is the case and you’re trolling, its always a good idea to have a few fishing lines in the water if possible. This allows you to experiment with lure sizes and colors. Even for experienced walleye anglers it can be difficult to know, and mixing it up while you’re fishing is the only way to figure it out for sure.

A couple generalities to consider is in warmer water when the walleye become more active, or you’re on some water known to produce trophy-size walleye, use a bigger spinner. Early or late season when the walleye are more lethargic, go smaller.

Tipping your spinner with live bait makes this walleye lure presentation that much more effective. Appealing to as many of the walleyes’ senses as possibly will make you a better angler. You might also try a plastic substitute like Gulp!. Not only is plastic more durable than live bait, but the scent used in this product is much stronger and will attract walleye from a greater distance.

Bottom bouncing is one of the most effective methods you can have in your walleye fishing arsenal. Getting the right feel for it comes with practice, but starting out with the right knowledge will help you become successful and have fun on the water.

okay so im 13 and in my apts there are a lot of pervs! and theres one perv that is maybe 30 years old and he always used to talk to me.he would always ask if i was coming to the pool and everything and if i said no he would be like “come on, i thought yall were fish” cause i was always at the pool with my friend. but then he started watching me from the gym we have, and my bedroom was right across from it. well one night i was layin on the wall of my patio and he was standing at the gym window and he kept looking at me! and when i was moving from my old apt to my new one he was watching me! i stared at him to let him know i knew he was watching but he still didnt look away! and one day he saw me ( im gonn a tell u the whole convo) he said
Hey girl. I thought u moved
no. im staying for a couple more weeks.
oh well i heard u moved, so
well i did move but just to another apartment
oh.why?
cause we had a two bedroom and we only needed a one bedroom
for u ur mom and ur dad?
no.just me and my dad
oh. why is that?
cause my parents r getting seperated.
oh why?
i dont know
oh. who r u living with? ur mom or ur dad?

ummmm its………..well i dont know where it is. i just know its 5 hours away. ( i smiled and laughed during this sentence. and we both laughed at the end.) well then my dad showed up!!!!

nothing. then we both walked away. and now i have a huge crush on the guy!!!!!!! am i stupid for that???
oh and he always used to stare at me at the pool but i didnt notice. my friend did. but i have a more developed body then i should.
one time i was at the pool with my friends and he just showed up!!! well he was with his son. and it started to rain. and my phone was on a chair with my towel and when he walked past it he said ” im gonna cover up somebodys phone. its starting to rain.” and he put the towel over my phone and he patted it.

Lake Havasu is an impoundment from the Colorado River that is located on the border of Arizona and California. This lake covers over 21,000 acres and stretches out twenty-nine miles long.

The shoreline is irregular and is made up of gravel and sand in some areas with mountain bedrock in other locations. It is one of the best places to go fishing for bass in the western part of the United States.

Most of the water that goes into Lake Havasu enters from the Davis Dam and the water exits from the California and Arizona canals. This lake has a lot of vegetation that makes for a great habitat for bass to grow and thrive to some very impressive sizes. You can find largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass and black bass in Lake Havasu. With these options, who wouldn’t want to go fishing in this amazing lake?

Where to Go Fishing for Bass on Lake Havasu

Whenever you go fishing on Lake Havasu you need to know where to find the bass. If you don’t have any idea of where to get started, then you may not have a very effective fishing trip. The bass, like many other species of fish, will spawn in the spring. This will be the time of year when they will be feeding the most aggressively and when you have the opportunity to catch the most bass.

Don’t miss this opportunity if you have the chance to be here during this season.

When you are fishing for bass you need to look for them around structures such as stumps, logs, Lilly pads, docks, trees and so forth. Basically, you need to search for them anywhere there are underwater structures whether they are man-made or natural. Bass like to ambush their prey and this gives them the perfect opportunity to do so.

You will find the smallmouth bass in the clearest parts of the lake and the largemouth bass will be in the darker waters under vegetation and around structures. You will normally find the stripped bass in the calmer parts of the lake. Keep this in mind when you are fishing for a specific type of bass. The more you learn about the lake the easier it will be for you to know where to start the search for the species of your choice.

Techniques to Use When Bass Fishing Lake Havasu

Many anglers will tell you that your technique is everything if you want to catch bass. This is true to a certain extent so let’s talk about techniques for a few minutes. One technique that works very well in Lake Havasu is fly fishing. This technique is growing in popularity as more and more anglers are learning about all the advantages it has to offer. It is a great way to fish for bass.

Trolling is another technique that is used often in Lake Havasu when fishing for bass. Trolling is a simple method that requires you to have the boat moving at a slow idle with the fishing lines following along behind the boat. This technique allows you to cover a lot of water in a short period of time which helps you to locate the bass much faster.
