Q&A: Redneck Non-Fisherman?
Question by Russian T: Redneck Non-Fisherman?
A redneck was stopped by a game warden in Arkansas recently with two ice chests of fish. He was leaving a cove well known for its fishing.
The game warden asked the man, “Do you have a license to catch those fish?”
“Naw, sir, I ain’t got none of them there licenses, no. You must understand these here are my pet fish.”
“Pet fish?” said the game warden.
“Yeah . Every night I take these here fish down to da lake and let them swim ’round for a while. Then I whistle and they jump rat back into this here ice chest and I take them home.”
“That’s a bunch of hooey! Fish can’t do that!” says the warden.
The redneck looked at the game warden for a moment and then said, “It’s the truth Mr. Government man, I’ll show you. It really works.”
“Okay,” said the game warden, “I’ve GOT to see this!”
The redneck poured the fish into the lake and stood and waited.
After several minutes, the game warden turned to him and said, “Well?”
“Well, what?” said the redneck.
The warden said, “When are you going to call them back?”
The redneck said, “Call who back?”
“The FISH!” replied the warden.
“What fish?” answered the redneck.

White River Trout Fishing – The Main Difference Between Fishing In The South Vs. The West
Posted: Jul 22, 2010 |
]]>
Is there a difference between fishing the western rivers versus the white waters of Arkansas? There is a very big difference. As you read on, you will discover the challenge and enjoyment of Arkansas trout fishing. You will experience a whole new level of trout that you never knew existed. If you get the chance, this is the kind of fishing that you don’t want to miss.
First let’s talk about the western lakes, rivers and streams. The western part of the USA has the greatest abundance of trout. Long ago the trout favored the western region for its plentiful calm, cool streams. The migration happened over many generations, but the result is an overcrowding of trout. Now if you have read other publications from me, you might remember that trout overcrowding stunts the growth of a trout. They only grow as big as their environment allows. Too many trout and the result is a lot of small fish on the end of your hook.
Let’s now take a look at Arkansas. The land there is spacious, migration of trout went away from the area and the trout that stayed grew large. These trout that made the white waters their home grew to sizes not seen in the west. In these parts, it is common to find a 9 inch trout on your line and not uncommon to hear of a 20 inch or larger trout being reeled in on someone’s fishing line.
If you are looking for a challenge, then this is the place to go. These fish are big and aggressive. They are not for the “faint of heart”. When you hook one of these trout, you are in for fight. The bigger the trout, the smarter they seem to be. It takes time to grow to this size. The more elusive trout are the ones that live long enough to grow to these enormous sizes. They are not easy to catch and that is where the challenge comes in. If you can hook a big one, you will have something to boast about for the rest of the year and possibly for the rest of your life. Take a camera along to capture all the memories.

Ever really thought much about, what your fish is swallowing besides your bait? Nowadays, there are so many different brands, sizes and styles of hooks on the shelves, just which one will you choose? Question by Bilbo Baggins: Are blinders for horses so they are not easily scared from their path. What happens when humans wear blinders?
?
Obviously other than the strange human wearing horse blinders…..
…Must humans continually be guided?
State officials on Monday were investigating why 80,000 to 100,000 fish washed up dead on the shores of the Arkansas River last week. Officials said 95 percent of the fish that died were drum fish —
…Drum fish, which are bottom feeders, are not sought by fishermen, he added, and fishing was NOT banned as a precaution. “Right now it’s fine to fish,” KTHV quoted Stephens as saying. “If you go out there you can still fish for bass and crappie, catfish, it will be fine. Obviously don’t eat the dead fish.”
Stephens said that nature will be doing the cleanup. “We’ll have raccoon and birds and things like that will take care of it so there is really no cleanup, it’s really too big. It’s contained along the river channel.”

How To Catch Crappie When Fishing In Arkansas

You don’t have to go far to look for a good place for Arkansas crappie fishing. According to anglers in the state, almost every resident in the state lives within an hour of a choice fishing spot. The state is divided into ten fishing districts, each of which is littered with lakes and rivers where schools of crappie swarm, always offering fishermen a guaranteed good catch. However, each district has its own top lake or river for Arkansas crappie fishing, where you’re sure to catch some whoppers. I’m going to go over the 4 best in this article.
District 1 in the northwest has several lakes to boast with great Arkansas crappie fishing. However, Beaver Lake is known for containing a lot of great habitat for crappie in its 28,000+ acres. Though the size of the lake may cause difficulties in locating the schools of crappie, once you find them, you shouldn’t be surprised to get several trophy-worthy slabs. Situated in the Ozarks, Beaver Lake is also a beautiful location for Arkansas crappie fishing. In the spring, you might also try Coose Creek or Esculapia Hollow in the Pine Creek area.
While District 2 in the northern Ozarks is probably not the optimal part of the state for Arkansas crappie fishing, a trip to the upper end of Bull Shoals Lake can reap some rewards. Don’t bother with the lower areas of the lake; it seems the best spawn are found in the upper reaches of the 45,500-acre Corps reservoir, with most catch averaging around 1/2 of a pound and a few reaching two pounds. Search for sunken brush piles in Tucker Hollow or West Sugar Loaf, also, as there is very little visible cover for crappie in these areas.
In District 3 in the northeast corner of Arkansas, crappie fishing is good. There are several large popular lakes, but it’s little Lake Hogue, hidden away in the delta farm country, that contains some of the largest slabs. This lake was completely renovated in 1985 and has been stocked with big fish that produce MORE big fish. Though it’s only about 280 acres, it’s full of great cover for crappie.
District 4 is probably one of the best areas for crappie in the entire country. Arkansas crappie fishing here encompasses several excellent lakes, including Midway, Old Town, and Mellwood Old River Lake. Though Midway and Old Town are both great crappie fishing spots, Mellwood Old River Lake known for producing a day’s limit of 50 2-pounders for many fishermen.
Just focusing on these 4 districts while crappie fishing in Arkansas will put you in the best position to catch a ton of crappie – and isn’t that what it’s all about?

LAKE QUACHITA STRIPER GUIDE
San Antonio, TX Dec. 2010 George Cochran is one of the most-versatile and knowledgeable fishermen on the professional bass-fishing circuit. Cochran is viewed as a tournament competitor who can create bass, meaning he catches bass in places that generally don’t hold bass to win tournaments.
George Cochran grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He spent his early childhood fishing off the family’s backyard boat dock and later fishing from a john-boat in the small lakes of Lakewood subdivision. George’s most important fishing and hunting lessons were taught to him by a neighbor, Pete Jaworski. Pete taught George how to be patient, to fish and hunt methodically. The two were a team hunting and fishing together for forty years. theses early chapters of George’s life instilled the love and desire of being in the outdoors.
Fishing professionally for thirty years George now competes in the FLW tournaments. Some of his past accomplishments include winning the Bass Master Classic Championship in 1987 and 1996, and the FLW Forrest Wood Cup Championship in 2005. George loves his professions and loves competing.
Like other pro fishermen, there are certain types of fishing Cochran dislikes. But, he has to overcome those dislikes to win. The biggest secret in bass fishing is learning to catch bass under conditions you don’t like to fish. Living close to Lake Hamilton and Lake Ouachita, George is now offering guided fishing trips. He also has a fish camp near Stuttgart, Arkansas. Whether you are a seasoned angler or someone who is just beginning to learn. George would be happy to teach you fishing techniques that will improve your skills and enable you to enjoy the sport of fishing. For competition or recreation fishing is a sport for everyone offering Lake Quachita Striper Guide.

Fly-fishing, A Fun Sport
Fly-fishing, A Fun Sport
Fly-fishing, a fun sport
Fly-fishing is an ancient angling method especially effective in catching trout and salmon. This distinct method of angling uses artificial flies to lure or excite fish. Fly-fishing helps anglers catch the fish easier than the traditional way.
There are two basic forms of fly-fishing, dry flies and wet flies.
Dry flies need coating with floatant in order for it to sit in the surface of the water. Dry flies are mostly effective in upstream and moving water. Dry flies help anglers’ spot where fish resides like pools and pocket in streams. Thus, it is easier to detect them and catch the fish.
The use of wet flies is beneath the surface of the water. Wet flies are nymphs, lures and true wet flies. It works as effective as dry flies except that in cases where weeds are many and almost touching the surface, wet flies blends with the weeds and thus may not be as effective as the dry flies.
Fly-fishing was developed in the 19th century, dry fly technique is very effective especially for slower and clearer rivers.
This is because weeds in rich rivers tend to grow closer to the surface, thus traditional wet fly fishing is almost ineffective. Dry fly fishing is thus useful by keeping the fly and the line floating on the surface. This makes fish excited and aggressive; the angler can then spot the location of the fish and in turn catches fish easier.
Later developments of fly-fishing made this concept as basis, thus in the latter part of the 19th century, anglers develop love for fly-fishing. This gave birth to fly-fishing, the sport among its aficionados.
Various parts of the United States host fly-fishing sports such as in the waters of Catskill Mountains of New York and the provinces of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, British Columbia, Alberta and California.
Anglers in North America also develop various literatures pertaining to fly-fishing. The sport of fly-fishing and all these literatures gave North America the reputation of being the birthplace of dry fly-fishing, specifically the City of Calgary, Alberta. It is arguably one of the world’s best trout rivers, thus it remains to be the epicenter for the Western Fly Fishing in North America.
Various other states in America keeps the growing number of fly-fishers such as Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Arkansas. The growing number of anglers that are drawn to the sport of fly-fishing keeps the popularity at its peak.
Dry or wet fly-fishing, whichever is more effective in the rivers where you fish will help keep the sport exciting. It may not be long that other countries will learn to love the sport and make it a globally loved sport.
How does fly-fishing work?
Fly fishing uses longer and lighter rods; sizes vary from 2m (6 ft) for fresh water and up to 4m (14 ft) for salt water fly-fishing. Weight for fresh water rods are between two to five ounces.
Popular types of casts in fly-fishing follow its variety in situation specifics. Anglers uses common cast when the angler whisks the fly rod forward and back using his forearm and upper arm, the wrist is used to soften the motion.
The rod movement varies from 10 o’clock position to 2 o’clock position without touching the ground. Anglers do this to load the rod tip with energy and to travel the fly line creating distance and control; they call this motion false casting.
False casting needs to be done to excite the fish or make it aggressive enough so that when the fly touches the surface, it will be sure that the area where the fly touches is where most of the fish are located and thus will be easier to spot and catch them.
Whether you are a fly-fishing aficionado for outdoor excitement or having fun with your family, using the proper equipment will help you develop love for the sport. Keep it exciting and enjoy fishing at its finest in most popular fly-fishing locations in the country. There are many locations, thus you will not have a problem in spotting nice locations for you and your family for this wonderful outdoor adventure.
